Speak for me

"'Speak For Me' is my favorite song on the record. I truly do believe that this is a song that every person who does God's work or is in ministry – this is one of the songs they need to listen to. It's just so hard sometimes for me when you give so much and you don't have anything left to give. I mean, what do I have to give the world? I don't have anything. And sometimes what it's down to is, 'Speak for me Lord. Do all these things and be all these things I can't be for this world in need.' It is a song that was written by my producer, Mark Heimermann. He had written this beautiful piece of music. After we had listened to the music, I shared my feelings about what I was going through, and we asked Toby McKeehan (of dc Talk) if he could write the lyrics. They did such a great job capturing what I wanted to say. The song is about being human, and being a vessel that God works through. I know that has always been my prayer, because there is no way on earth that I could ever do all of this on my own. I just know there are days that I have to ask God to work through me and "Speak for Me," because sometimes I can't." -- Jaci Velasquez
